MAK ONE Software Patches FAQ

MAK ONE Software Patches FAQ

Can I download a patched version of the software from the MAK ONE Downloads Page?

No, the download page provides only the base release version. This is for a couple of reasons:

  • We don’t necessarily build every product for every patch release. For example, if VR-Vantage has an issue that doesn’t affect VR-Forces, we only make a VR-Vantage patch release. This means that users doing development on multiple products cannot assume the latest patches are all binary compatible.

  • Patch releases do not undergo the same level of testing that major, feature, or maintenance releases do. If a customer runs into a specific issue, it is certainly worth switching to a patch release that fixes it. Because we don't run our full suite of regression tests, however, MAK can't guarantee that a fix doesn't introduce another issue.

If I need a fix for a problem I’m having, how do I get the patch release?

MAK support engineers and MAK distributors can provide you with the information to get the installation package for a product patch release.

If I receive a patch to address a problem that I had, can I uninstall the unpatched version?

Yes, the installation package for a patch release includes the full software. You can install that and remove the base released version if the patched one works better for you.

Is the patch letter required in the installation folder names, or can I simply use the numeric version number?

It is not needed but, if you require further support, it is important that you supply the patch letter along with the version number. Including the letter version in the folder name makes this easy.
