VR-Forces is Not Stable (The Ultimate Checklist)

We are sorry you are experiencing instability with VR-Forces. We spend a considerable amount of time with both QA and automated testing to ensure the best quality we can. That said, sometimes we miss things.

This page is meant as an ordered checklist of things to try to resolve the issues. In many cases, customers have noticed a high level of instability and the issues here were shown to be the cause. Hopefully, something listed here can help you, too.

Is it the GUI or the Sim Engine?

The first thing you do when you are trying to diagnose instability with VR-Forces is try to determine whether the problem is with the VR-Forces GUI or the VR-Forces Sim Engine. VR-Forces runs as two separate applications and the typical things that cause instability in each can be quite different.

Usually, it is fairly clear which of these applications is crashing. If you are not sure, please look in C:\MAK\logs for any .callstack or .dmp files. VR-Forces applications generate both a vrfSim* and a vrfGui* log file. The “callstack” or “dmp” files combined with the log name will indicate where the crash occurred.

The VR-Forces GUI Is Not Stable

The VR-Forces GUI is built on VR-Vantage. Many of the most common issues which cause the VR-Forces GUI to be unstable happen at the VR-Vantage level and typically involve graphics card or driver problems. Please read: https://mak-tech.atlassian.net/wiki/x/M4BOBQ

The VR-Forces Sim Engine Is Not Stable

  1. Do you have the latest version? Specifically, do you have the latest maintenance release. We only share patch releases through support, but you can find the latest official release here: Support: Product Specifications & Dependencies.

  2. If you have any plugins, please try to run VR-Forces without the plugins.

  3. Please make sure you send us .dmp and .callstack files for all your crashes to the MAK Support Portal. MAK Support Center - Jira Service Management. For instability in the Sim Engine often the issues are diverse and not associated with one specific problem.
